Many of our clients comment on how beautiful our building is; however, most of them don’t know that we incorporated a “green” standard into our facility. Many of our decisions regarding the building process were geared around the impact on the environment. The result employs a more environmentally friendly workplace for our staff as well as a much greener building for our community.

Our environmentally friendly philosophy incorporates simple measures such as motion-activated lights on sensors with timers, compact fluorescent energy efficient bulbs (CFLs), certain water faucets on a sensor system, high efficiency appliances, and lots of energy efficient windows to flood all areas with direct natural light, including skylights, further helping to reduce our carbon footprint. The natural light also promotes a healthier sense of well-being for the staff, our patients, and clients.

The hospital is insulated with Icynene® water-blown insulation, which acts as an air seal to lock out dust, allergens, and pollutants from entering the building, creating a healthier indoor environment. In turn, it helps reduce the production of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. It can also help reduce energy use and costs by as much as 50%.

Our choice to use a white roof cuts down on our energy consumption by reflecting solar heat. Studies show that white roofs reduce air-conditioning costs by 20% or more in hot, sunny weather. Lower energy consumption also means fewer of the carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming.

Our landscape design utilizes indigenous plantings and trees that will help to shade the building when mature, therefore decreasing energy consumption. We’ve also tried to use native species with a higher drought tolerance to minimize the need for extra watering.

Our primary flooring substrate is a relatively new product called Marmoleum, which is an eco-friendly sustainable green floor covering. We also have a comprehensive recycling program for paper, glass, plastics, cardboard, and printer toner.

At Village Vet, we are doing everything we can to help the environment and our neighborhood. Going green has been a big step for us. We are very proud of our accomplishments and hope you will take notice. We anticipate that by making this choice to go green, we will not only do our part for the environment, but also start a trend in the Farragut business community.
